Thanks to Jack, who was able to receive the station but not the audio portion, a mystery has been solved. If you are in this same situation where your TV or converter box receive a perfect picture but no audio the problem most likely resides in your audio settings.

Television stations for quite some time have broadcast what’s known as a Secondary Audio Program (SAP). SAP provided another audio source for the programming on screen many times it was a Spanish language audio translation of the program being watched. More often than not, however, the SAP was not used (as on WLEP) so when the audio setting on a viewer’s TV was set to SAP the viewer was met with silence. This is why stations today broadcast their main audio feed on their SAP in order to prevent the type of confusion that Jack encountered. A simple accidental pressing of a button can cause the station’s audio to just disappear.

I did not consider this when setting up the station. I will see what I can do to provide my main audio feed on the second audio program in order to prevent this problem from confusing viewers again.

My apologies to Jack and also my thanks go out to you for helping me trouble shoot this issue. If you are having this problem it’s highly possible other people are having the same problem but just change the channel rather than let me know.
